CLOSING THE SHOP

Happy New Year. After over 5 years of putting out records, I’ve decided to close the shop. I’m proud of all of the material that came out on Black Box Recordings and hope that everyone enjoyed the music as much as I did. I’d also like to thank everyone that supported the label over the years, it’s much appreciated. It’s been an uphill battle almost the entire way.
Anyway, the webstore will be open for the rest of the month. Everything is priced to move.

The plans for the collection/repress of the Self-titled Tombs EP and the split with Planks has taken an interesting turn.  Relapse will be collecting both releases along with some demo material and pressing a limited run of CD’s. At some point next year, a deluxe vinyl version will surface with drop card.

Planks and Tombs will be hitting the road next month in the US.

The second pressing of the Tombs / Planks split is currently sold out, at least with respect to the BBR Store.  We’ll be carrying the last few copies with us on the road, but supplies are extremely limited.  The current pressing of the first EP is almost gone as well, so be on the look out for a deluxe package including the three Tombs tracks from the split collected with the EP.

The first Vasilek recordings are going to be release late summer.  I’m hoping to have final artwork posted sometime in July.

TOMBS is gearing up for Maryland death Fest, a West Coast Tour with Isis and a short run of shows with EYEHATEGOD, NACHTMYSTIUM and BRUTAL TRUTH.

TOMBS self-titled EP and split 12-in with PLANKS, both on their second press, are nearly sold out so order them while their still available or pick one up at one of the dates.

DEAD IN THE WOODS / DIET PILLS split 12-in is available.

The Black Box Recordings site has been re-worked and updated for a more streamlined experience. It’s been a longtime coming and I’d like to thank Ira Bronson for the fine work he did on the new, stremlined version of the site.

The Dead in the Woods / Diet Pills split LP is now available. If you live in the UK, please check these guys out on the road.

The next BBR release will be the limited CD release of Vasilek, a recording project featuring myself and Thos Niles (27, Black Tail, La Gritona, Anodyne). It’s nearly 30 minutes of instrumental music that has been sitting on the backburner for several years and will finally see the light of day in the next few months. I just got the master back from Scott Hull and it sounds punishing.

Tombs just wrapped up a short southeastern tour with label mates Graves of Valor. The highlight was playing with Voivod at the Relapse South by Southwest Showcase in Austin, TX. It was one of the best sets that I’ve seen this year.

The TOMBS /PLANKS repress is on the way.  Unfortunately, it will not be available for the upcoming Dysrhythmia / Tombs Tour which kicks off in a few short weeks.  There will be more Tombs-related tour announcements in the coming weeks.

Also, be advised: TOMBS “Winter Hours” will be availabe on 2.17 (US) and 2.24 (World) from Relapse Records.

The second entry in the BBR Split 12-in Series,  DEAD IN THE WOODS / DIET PILLS split is coming along nicely.  The masters should be arriving soon and then it’s off to the plant.  The first press of 200 will be available on colored vinyl, featuring a hand-screened cover and include an mp3 drop card.

Though this has absolutly nothing to do with Black Box Recordings, I feel compelled to mention that I’ve been really into the Bodychoke record that Relapse re-issued.  It’s a discography of material recorded between 1993 and 1999.  Body Choke is the “rock Band” featuring members of Jutcliffe Jugend, Melt and other UK noise/ambient bands.  Imagine the intensity, misanthropy and pure hatred of Whitehouse, Sutcliffe Jugend and Melt filtered through a “rock band” and that’s pretty much what Bodychoke is all about.
